Bach Cantata Listener's Guide

Gott, man lobet dich in der Stille (God, praise waiteth Thee in the temple)

Cantata 120b

  • 200th Anniversary of the Augsburg Confession, 26th June 1730

The music for this cantata is lost but you can find the text in Dürr and reconstruct a little for yourself since it is thought that BWV 120, BWV 120a and BWV 120b were all adapted from the same lost Köthen original. So, BWV 120b/1 corresponds BWV 120/1, BWV 120b/2 corresponds to BWV 120/2, BWV 120b/4 corresponds to BWV 120/4. Alas, the music of movements 3, 5 and 6 (two recitatives and the final chorale) is lost to us. You can also find more details in the critical commentary to NBA I/34.
