Barenboim's "Das Lied" is a free flowing affair full of wonderful touches and some spellbindingly haunting climaxes. It is also a wonderful send off for Waltraud Meier who sings with unremitting conviction which superbly matches past great exponents in this role such as Christa Ludwig and Anna Tomowa-Sintow.
Jerusalem is also a committed soloist throughout with the nuances and subtle inflexions of the myriad pitfalls superbly handed rather in the manner of Fischer-Dieskau on the legendary Klemperer recording. Warner's Maestro series continues to churn out great recordings at an eminently cheap price.
