This is a straight relay of the famous live broadcast of the unforgettable Mahler concert from 1951 with Klemperer on top form. It is broadly similar to the Decca recording taken from the same performance although sound here is pretty variable.
Ferrier and Vincent sing with absolute authority and wonder, whilst the Concertgebouw play like men possessed. Although many may prefer the famous EMI recording of seven years later (now reissued in the GROC series), I still believe this is Klemperer's finest hour in the 'Resurrection'.
Guild's documentation is truly superb with a booklet that includes extensive notes, artist's biographies, rare archive photographs and full texts together with translations. The budget price tag is certainly sensational value for such an important historical document and should be unhesitatingly snapped up at all costs.
