Antonio de Cabezón

Organ

(1510 - 1566)

Antonio de Cabezón (1510 - March 26, 1566) was a Spanish composer and organist of the Renaissance. Blinded in early childhood, he traveled widely in Europe (including England) but settled in Madrid in service to the Spanish royal court. Cabezón was one of the most important organists and composers for the organ; composing some of the first music specifically for the organ. Best known for his Tientos – short, intense, liturgical and polyphonic works for keyboard and organ. Many of his works were published in 1578 by his son Hernando de Cabezón.
