This classic documentary will bring true enjoyment to those who are fascinated with this recording of Wagner's 'Ring', almost forty years after it still has the capacity to thrill.

The demonic energy of Solti's conducting is aptly captured but what shines through is the genius of the production and recording team headed by John Culshaw. The extensive interviews with Culshaw, Gordon Parry, James Lock and Solti himself show what a massive undertaking this whole project was. Cuts and takes from the actual recording sessions are very effective and the whole process of recording, listening and editing is explained in great detail.

In short, this is an indispensable addition to the actual audio Ring alongside Deryck Cooke's equally indispensable commentary. The DVD also includes a 69-minute bonus of highlights in superb surround sound. The DVD is a huge improvement on the original video and anyone who has a remote interest in recording should invest in it without delay.
