Mohammed Ali was an icon for all American blacks and oppressed Arabs around the world and the film by Michael Mann is appropriately scored with many tracks by Salif Keita and a host of other similar artists. However there are some touching pieces by Gladiator shy legend Lisa Gerrard who teams up with Pieter Bourke for 'Time Flies Away' and 'Adagio' that shores up memories of the titanic boxer who seemed so utterly invincible. The two tracks by Salif Keita, 'Papa' and Sanni Kegniba' are monumental pieces that really demonstrate Ali's incessant free spirit. There are also other tracks by Mighty Joe Young, Martin Tillman and the rousing 'Set me Free' by Dungeon east.

It may not be a soundtrack that appeals to those who enjoy more romantic pieces such as 'Pearl Harbour' and Gladiator; Ali will be popular with those who like rock and Afro American stuff. At 40 minutes, the timing may seem slightly stingy but then, it is the official album.
