Hyperion's outstanding Vivaldi series comes to an end with a well-filled disc featuring some of his finest choral works alongside a major find in Ruggieri's 'Gloria'. Robert King's sympathetic direction ensures that the music on offer remains memorable and also gathers momentum.

The RV589 'Gloria' is perhaps the more well known of the works on this disc with several other interpretations and recordings on offer. It will suffice to say that King confers great beauty and panache to the music and also has some fine contributions from the distinguished team of soloists. The same goes for the almost unknown 'Nisi Dominus' RV803.

A short setting of 'Ostro picta' is the prelude to Giovanni Maria Ruggieri's 'Gloria' that is definitely one of the major sacred music discoveries. The music is very well constructed and King paces everything with knowledgeable panache. As is the norm, the recordings are imbued with clarity and the right dose of power with exhaustively detailed notes. A laudable conclusion to what has been a memorable series in all ways.
