I was not aware of the name Jackson Berkey before putting these CDs into my player but after repeated listening sessions to his haunting music, I can safely say I'm quite a big fan already and pretty eager to learn more about his music which seems to be substantial.
The quality of Berkey's compositions can be seen in the uncanny ways he manages to depict what seems to be quite a mundane event, a good egg dish at a Bed & Breakfast in Delaware is a typical example but the music puts one into another world. The Hood Canal Pastels are also beautifully expressive pieces full of character and colours.
The Nocturnes and the fascinatingly titled "JJ's Toy Box" are also typical Berkey; full of romantic colour and technical accomplishment. The latter is also evident in his spellbinding playing of the Beethoven's Op. 109 which is more than an ideal way to conclude this set. I will be returning often to this collection especially to the Delaware Bay Ice in particular and am eager to get to know more of Jackson Berkey.
