Derek Han is a household name in the piano field and together with Wu Han and Peter Asimov they give what can only be described as a sublime interpretation of the rather rare Concerto for Three Pianos. The youthful vigour of the accompanying soloists creates a certain empathy between the elder Han who is an obvious mentor to them both. The two piano concerto also finds both Hans in exquisite form especially in the central section where interplay between soloists is at its most intricate. Derek Han rounds off with two beautiful Rondos which he also plays to the manner born, exquisitely accompanied by Massimo Quarta.
The 2008 recordings are impeachable with the piano sounding crystal clear and judiciously balanced against the orchestra. This is highly recommended on all counts.
