Somehow I missed this when it was originally released but this is the same set of recordings Stokowski made in 1974 on RCA 62605 (coupled with Stokowski's take on Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks. This particular disc, however, is in Dolby Pro Logic Surround Sound and is a significant improvement on the earlier release. The sound is deeper, richer with more air around the music and clearer solo details throughout. To my knowledge this disc is only available as an Arkiv CD. The order of the pieces has changed for some strange reason. To hear Stokowski's stereo Chaconne is reason enough to get this disc and even if you have the earlier release this will offer several evenings of pleasant music.
