This double CD set is an aural feast for those fans of the organ and keyboard instruments, a rich collection of music from the masterly pen of Schedit who was a contemporary of Buxtehude, Schutz and Sweelinck. Residing in Halle' for practically all of his working life, Scheidt's contribution to the genre of early baroque is extremely important.

Franz Raml is an extremely versatile musician and this is most avidly demonstrated in the variety of roles he must undertake throughout this two hour set. The contribution of Lanshamer is also very creditable especially in the second Cantio sacra. But such is the myriad of tunes and compositions on this well filled set that one is immediately referred to the extensive booklet which goes into great detail on the individual pieces.

Connoisseurs of such music will delight in this veritable maze of music and the recording is very homely and atmospheric. The exhaustively detailed notes are also essential reading to understand this complex composer who is definitely one of the legends of Germany's great baroque past.
