This classic recording of Donizett's comic opera, 'Don Pasquale' still remains one of the finest in the catalogue. The late lamented István Kertész conducts with virility and an uncanny command of the score aided by some delightful playing from the Vienna Orchestra. Soloists are top notch with the versatile Fernando Corena and the graceful Graziella Sciutti on top form.
Decca retain the original coupling that featured in their Grand Opera series with Cimarosa's "Il maestro di cappella" a rare but excellent addition to the set. The recording hasn't changed much with the 24-bit remastering but the libretto has been retained, making this set real value for money.
