Richard Bonynge returns to these classic scores on a Double Decca issue after having been available for a number of years on an Ovation set. This is a straight reissue of the 1974/80 recordings that were always a model of clarity and balletic inspiration. 'Cinderella' is a beautiful score and if you don't have it in your collection, now is a good time to buy as the remastering has also appeared quite clearer than previous issues.
The NPO play with infectious vitality and magnificent clarity, with Bonynge pointing out the inimitable wealth of tunes with his knowing affection for such scores. The original scores from 'Ritter Pásmán' and the Blue Danube arrangement are also included here and these are similarly ebullient scores. Decca's engineering is always a joy to listen to and I have nothing but praise for this justly famous Strauss compendium.
