Medieval music is coming into fashion of late and this splendidly played and recorded disc is another testimony to the art of Philip Pickett and his similarly excellent New London Consort.

Basically the disc consists of eight works by the prolific Gautier de Coincy (c.1177-1236) who was extremely active in the early 13th century. The sublime atmosphere of the monastery of Vic-sur-Aisne was surely conducive for these Miracles, works of sublime beauty and magisterial splendour.

The repetitive nature of the music makes for a haunting experience and in the final, 'Entendez Tuit Ensemble', all comes together in glorious splendour. Pickett is an authority on this sort of music and his choristers are backed up with élan by the players of the NLC. This is definitely one of the discs of the year in the Medieval sector.
