The famed Bachian pianist, Angela Hewitt now turns her attention to François Couperin, one of the greatest composers from the time of Louis XIV.
These collections of keyboard works are perhaps better suited to the fortepiano but the indefatigable Hewitt plays with unabashed conviction throughout and also brings a noble pathos to the music.
Indeed, I was bowled over by the beautiful melodies that inform these works and really felt that Couperin reached supreme heights of mastery in these keyboard works. One can enjoy the disc straight through; such is the pull of the music on offer here.
Finally, there is an exquisite painting entitled 'The Grape Harvest' on the front cover whilst the recording is as fine as one could wish. In short, another winner from Angela Hewitt.
