Hyperion has chosen to resurrect a number of important piano recordings from the now defunct Collins Classics catalogue and the latest in these offerings is a release in their Romantic Piano Concerto series featuring Scharwenka's 2nd & 3rd piano concertos.

I already have the original Collins disc and had reviewed it when it came out in 1997. Looking back at my notes I observed that 'Tanyel is a delightful interpreter of these big boned concertos' and that she brought 'a clear mellifluousness to proceedings'. Listening around 6 years on, I can confirm that these are delightful recordings that continue to hold the fort for these neglected concertos.

The recordings do not differ markedly from the Collins disc so if you have that, you don't need to duplicate. For others who missed it first time round, this is an ideal opportunity to claim an important addition to the concerto repertoire.
