This is another outstanding disc that confirms the stature of Hyperion in the baroque field.

Crispian Steele Perkins surely needs no introduction as one of the finest trumpet players of all time and here he demonstrates capabilities that are truly mind boggling in their technical complexity.

But as if that is enough, the young Alison Balsom makes her own quite spectacular debut, on all counts she is definitely a name to look out for.

The music is as varied as one could imagine with all the names from the Italian high baroque represented. Stradella (1639-82), Legrenzi (1626-90), Vitali (1644-92), Cazzati (c1620-1677) and Torelli (1658-1709) all wrote large amounts of high-quality music for the brass instruments and this is demonstrated here.

The disc is a veritable audio feast for all who love pomp and circumstance and I have no hesitation in recommending it wholeheartedly.
