This latest disc from the Gaudier Ensemble features an intriguing chamber reduction of three Mozart piano concertos that offer extremely entertaining listening throughout. Susan Tomes is an alert and responsive pianist who combines delightfully to the sound of the quintet and the result is some lovely music making.
The three concertos are about equal in length but #13 is the most expansive and ambitious of the triptych. I enjoyed the beautiful interplay between soloist and players in the pensive slow movements and the end result is quite magical and very satisfying. As usual, the presentation is stylish and exemplary with copious notes and a stunning Watteau reproduction on the front.
