This disc is one of the first in which the talented Ronald Corp featured way back in the early 90's and the lush, atmospheric music of Virgil Thomson is definitely one of the high points in the Hyperion Helios catalogue.
'The Plow that Broke the Plains' is wonderfully atmospheric, crudely yet effectively depicting the vast American plains in the Depression hit Midwestern states whilst the famous 'Louisiana' Story surely needs no introduction from me to seasoned film experts. 'Power Among Men' is similarly evocative and wonderfully characteristic under Corp's inspired direction.
At this cheap price, this disc is certainly a snip with almost 70 minutes of top class American music.
