Silver Landscapes is the descriptive title given to a highly interesting CD dedicated entirely to the Flute music of Carmelo Pace, one of Malta's finest sons and arguably our national composer. The artists performing need no particular introduction, both Silvio Zammit (Flute) and Ramona Formosa (Piano) are established musical figures and their talent is there for all to see.
This project has taken years to come to fruition and hours of dedicated hard work and sheer perseverance have finally yielded a product of outstanding quality both in terms of recorded sound and artistic achievement. Most of the music is highly approachable and although the larger part of the items recorded are short pieces, the main work is a fifteen-minute long Sonatina for flute and piano, an extremely important Pace composition.
The CD was recorded at Temple Studios, Mistra during July 1997 and was produced by Silvio Zammit together with the assistance of sound engineers, David Vella and Howard Keith. Printing of the visually striking booklet was undertaken by the Media Centre. The notes include a succint and informative text by The Times Music Critic, Albert G. Storace and this is also translated in German, French, Italian, Japanese and Dutch.
The launching took place on Wednesday, the 25th February at the President's Palace, San Anton under the distinguished patronage of H.E. Dr. Ugo Mifusd Bonnici and Mrs. Mifsud Bonnici, where the performers shall play selected works from the CD together with short introductory speeches by Albert G. Storace and Sunday Times CD Reviewer, Gerald Fenech. The CD should be available at all major Maltese recording outlets.
