There is really very few words to say about this disc. It is, quite simply, one of the finest things I have heard this next to the last year of this millennium. That makes for about 5 already this year and it is only April.
To be honest, I do not have any recall of the Haydn Sonatas. Some years ago my father had some LPs and I listened to them, but they didn't make any particular impression. What a difference this is! It occurred to me that Andsnes is to Haydn what Gould was to Bach. This may not be HIP, but it is memorable. Neat stuff. Now I have to check and listen to any other discs this pianist has made. Stand by for more and enjoy an hour of fascinating music making.
