This disc is not just an issue dedicated to harp music in general, but carefully assembled compilation aimed at highlighting some very rare pieces for the instrument, and offering an hour's plus programme replete with some truly enchanting sounds.
The list of composers is indeed of the highest interest, and the group includes such familiar names as G.F. Handel and William Mathias (1934-92) but other less familiar composers such as Marcel Tournier (1897-1951), John Thomas (1836-1913), Marcel Gradjany (1891-1975) and contemporary composers David Watkins and Roger Nichols.
Each composer's work contributes in no small manner to the general proceedings which are played exquisitely by both soloists. Organist David Frost is the brain behind the informative notes on offer and the whole disc should serve both as a peaceful exercise as well as one replete with simple splendor.
