Hans Helmut Tillmanns' organ cycle has been ongoing for quite some time now and this latest version continues to confirm that it is one of the best around although it has received varying opinions from critics.
The Trio Sonata has Tillmanns in full fly with the Romanus Seifert organ in Wuppertal sounding quite resplendent especially in the top notes. The Choral settings also have Tillmanns on top form with grandeur and beauty moulded into one especially in the Easter setting, "Jesus Christus unser Heiland" BWV665. The other works are also well played although I looked for a little more frission in the Prelude and Fugue BWV 531.
As in previous recordings in this series, Danacord's recording is excellent in all locations although the notes are rather paltry and only include a short biography on Bach with little information about the works on the CD. However those who have been collecting this series will definitely not feel in any way short changed by the interpretations on offer.
