Cantata BWV 216a, BC G 47
- Homage cantata to the Leipzig town council
BWV 216 may be in a sorry state of repair, but things are even worse for this lost cantata. The text survives, Apollo and Mercury praising the town that lies upon the river Pleiße, but the music is lost. It may help to know that BWV 216a/1, 3, 5 & 7 correspond respectively to BWV 216/1, 3, 5 & 7. For details of this sad state of affairs, see the critical commentary to NBA I/39.
