Bach Cantata Listener's Guide

Das ist je gewisslich wahr (This is certainly the truth)

Cantata 141

  • Third Sunday in Advent
  • Epistle: 1 Corinthians iv 1-5 (Servants of Christ)
  • Gospel: Matthew xi. 2-10 (Jesus and the Baptist)

Cantata BWV 141 has been identified as being by Telemann and has been relegated into Anhang III of the BWV (reserved for works formerly attributed to Bach but now positively attributed to others). More happily, perhaps, it now appears as TVWV 1:183 in the catalogue of Telemann's works! A reference for the attribution is Dürr, Bach-Jahrbuch, 1951/2, pp. 31-36. I'm not aware of any recordings of this work currently available.
