This anthology groups together some of America's finest poetry read distinction by some of its finest actors.
The chilling immediacy of Allan Poe's 'The Raven' is judiciously matched by the epic Walt Whitman's 'Out of the Cradle, Endlessly Rocking', fourteen minutes of inspired literary beauty that is indeed one of the great parts of New World literature. There are other classics also, these include William Cullen Bryant's 'The Prairies' and Longfellow's 'Song of Hiawatha', both examples of the white man's relationship with his Indian counterpart.
Garrick Hagon is the reader in the more sensitive poems but his accompanists such as Liza Ross, et al, are all very fine with their inflexed accents and dramatic tinge. Naxos have also set dramatic music to the narratives, indeed Grofé, Macdowell and Gershwin are tailor made accompaniments to the poetry. This is an essential addition to the growing poetry collection in the Naxos catalogue.
