Nimbus have recently announced that they have acquired the rights to the American MusicMasters catalogue and the first fruit of this venture is a delightful 5CD set of various Vivaldi recordings which is marked as Volume 1 so we may expect a lot more from this composer to flow our way in the coming months.
Shlomo Mintz surely needs no introduction as one of the finest violinists of his time whilst the ICO prove to be sympathetic and at the same time, passionate interpreters of their Vivaldi. The works on offer are full of variety and one can sit back and listen with great pleasure to various string symphonies which are allegedly being recorded for the first time (although this is a 1993 release so these could have been superseded) [Most of these concertos and sinfonias have been recorded numerous times. -Ed.].
The original MusicMasters tapes always had a fine full rounded sound to them and they have come up trumps with Nimbus' remastering. Surely a set to enjoy on all counts and one keenly awaits further volumes in this series.
