This is the second volume in MD&G's series of Rosetti orchestral works that contains some of the pleasanter music composed in the late 18th Century.

The 'Hunt' symphony is characteristic of the period with the Hamburg players having quite a party in the Finale, especially the horn section.

Barner is a retracted exponent in the lovely Flute Concerto and she plays with exquisite feeling especially in the slow movement.

The other symphonies are very much Haydnesque in character and they also display the composer's penchant for long melodic movements, almost in concertante manner.

All in all this is a well filled highly enjoyable disc that will appeal to lovers of this genre. Collectors of the Chandos 'Contemporaries of Mozart' series will also not feel short changed as the interpretations of Moesus are markedly different from Bamert's.
