What a wonderful CD! The beauteous sound of Boccherini's music is truly personified in these sublime quintets that are full of the most inspiring parts, genially interpreted by the Vanbrugh Quartet.
There are three quintets in all and most of them feature some outstanding music especially in the trenchant concluding allegros that are a true joy to listen to. The F minor String Quintet is also brilliantly constructed with a lovely Adagio cantabile and a brilliant Rondo that continues to confirm Boccherini's stature as a quintet writer. In the G minor we have a more pensive and soulful mood but all is resolved in triumphant glory with an Allegro that features some daredevil tricks noticeably influenced from the earlier symphonies.
The Vanbrugh Quartet are peerless interpreters bringing life and character to proceedings. Hyperion's immaculate recording and artistic presentation continues to add to the spice of the recipe!
