This is the eighth release in Hyperion's series devoted to Vivaldi's sacred music and it continues to unearth the unminted treasures from an apparently huge archive.
The most substantial piece is the Laudate Pueri which is almost unknown but which contains music of the highest order all around. The same goes for other pieces such as the Sanctorum meritis which is a short two-minute piece that proves that Vivaldi did indeed write much shorter pieces for the repertoire.
The soloists are top class throughout with Nathalie Stutzmann convincingly and quite certainly one of the finest baroque singers at present. Robert King shows a complete empathy and understanding of the music which is no more different than the other volumes in the series.
Michael Talbot provides his usual detailed notes for the disc that are also compliant with other discs in the series. The stupendous and magnificent cover is devoted to Antonio Joli's painting of Naples, surely an added attraction to investing in this CD. Otherwise there are no qualms or difficulties in recommending another superbly engineered disc in the Vivaldi Sacred Music series.
