This is a delightful disc containing some of Mozart's most exquisite music for winds. I would be inclined to favour the peerless Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in both serenades (recently released in a bargain price seven-disc set) but the English Concert Winds are also characterful players especially in the genial K. 388. However I will definitely recommend this disc for the lovely interpretations of the three overtures that really come alive in these jolly versions for wind orchestra.
Hyperion's recording has come up quite trumps from 1996 and any one with a vested interest in such Mozartian works will want to investigate this disc at its bargain price. The fascinating cover painting is also a desirable addition to any collection!
