Arts are really doing all operatic lovers a huge favour with their impeccable opera recordings from the mid 70's and 80's with German orchestras. This splendid 'La Cenerentola' is no exception and just after 'L'Italiana in Algeri' will surely be one of the items well up on the shopping list of the discerning Rossini lover.

This recording hails from the Berlin State Opera and includes the famed Ugo Benelli as Don Ramiro alongside the magnificent Sesto Bruscantini as Dandini. Piero Bellugi has a knack for the orchestral music in this witty score and the whole really comes to life in a disarming manner with an energetic overture setting the stamp to a generally fast pace throughout.

Cenerentola is sung by the rather less well known Bianca Maria Casoli but she accredits herself extremely well as does Giovanna di Rocco as Clorinda with the other sister Tisbe sung by Teresa Rocchino, another under exposed but highly talented singer. The Fono recording from Hamburg sounds remarkably fresh and clean and with a full libretto included at the Arts price, one really cannot hesitate.
